Terms of Service
CtrlCV — Last Updated: September 30, 2026
1. About These Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and CtrlCV ("we", "us"). CtrlCV is operated by Babyfoot Studios Inc., a corporation registered in Ontario, Canada. These Terms apply to the CtrlCV website at ctrlcv.co and the CtrlCV application at app.ctrlcv.co.
By creating an account, joining our waitlist, or otherwise using our site or app, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use CtrlCV.
You must be at least 18 years old, and able to enter into a binding agreement, to use CtrlCV.
2. The Service
CtrlCV is an academic CV builder. It lets you build a structured academic profile — covering things like education, employment, publications, grants and more — optionally import information from your ORCID record or a publication file, and generate downloadable CVs in DOCX or PDF format.
ctrlcv.co is our marketing website, where you can also join our waitlist for beta access.
3. The Beta
CtrlCV is currently in beta and access is by invitation. Signing up may require an access code, which we give directly to the people we invite. Access codes are for your own use only — please don't publish or share them.
Because CtrlCV is under active development, features may change or be removed, and we make no guarantees about uptime, data persistence, or feature availability during the beta period. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the service at any time. Export and keep your own copies of any CV you care about.
CtrlCV is free to use during the beta. If we ever introduce fees, we will give you notice beforehand, and we will not start charging you without your agreement.
4. Your Account
You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account, and to keep your password secure. Your account is for your own use — please don't share it with anyone else.
If you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account, let us know at info@ctrlcv.co.
5. Your Content
You own the information in your CtrlCV profile and the CVs you generate from it. By using CtrlCV, you give us a limited licence to host, process, and use that content only to operate the service for you — for example, to store your profile, and to build and let you download your CVs.
You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter, and for the CVs you generate and share with others.
If you add information about someone else — for example a referee, a mentee, a co-author, or an advisor — you're responsible for having the right to share that information with us and to include it in your profile or exports.
You may only use the ORCID import to bring in your own ORCID record; importing someone else's record without their permission is not permitted. Content you import, whether from ORCID or a file, is shown to you for review before it's added to your profile, and you're responsible for confirming it's accurate before you rely on it.
6. Acceptable Use
- Provide accurate information, and don't impersonate another person.
- Don't attempt to access another user's account or data, or bypass any security or rate-limiting controls we use to protect the service.
- Don't add or import another person's personal information without the right to do so.
- Don't use CtrlCV for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes anyone else's rights.
- Don't attempt to disrupt or overload the service.
We use rate limiting and other technical safeguards to protect CtrlCV and its users; attempting to circumvent them is a breach of these Terms.
7. Third-Party Services and Data
CtrlCV connects to outside services to help you build your profile. If you use the ORCID import, our server requests your public ORCID record using only your ORCID iD. If you have peer reviews to import, we look up journal titles from a public database of journal information using only the relevant ISSNs — no personal information.
We don't control these services and can't guarantee the accuracy, availability, or completeness of the information they provide.
8. Intellectual Property
CtrlCV owns the service, the CtrlCV name and branding, and the underlying software. Nothing in these Terms gives you any rights to them beyond what's needed to use CtrlCV as intended.
The CVs you generate using CtrlCV are yours to use as you see fit.
9. Feedback
If you send us feedback, ideas, or suggestions about CtrlCV, you agree that we may use them to improve the service without any obligation or payment to you.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and share information about you. Please read it.
11. Suspension and Termination
You can stop using CtrlCV at any time. Because there's no self-serve way to delete your account yet, email info@ctrlcv.co and we'll delete your account and its data within 30 days.
We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, or when the beta period ends. Where we can, we'll try to give you notice first so you have a chance to export your CVs.
12. Disclaimers
CtrlCV is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
We don't guarantee that a CV generated using CtrlCV will meet the requirements of any particular institution, employer, or application.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CtrlCV is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service. Our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you have paid us, which during the beta period is nil.
Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold CtrlCV harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your content, or from your breach of these Terms.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as CtrlCV develops. If we make a material change, we'll notify you — for example, by email. Continuing to use CtrlCV after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes arising from these Terms will be resolved in the courts of the Province of Ontario.
17. General
These Terms are the entire agreement between you and CtrlCV regarding your use of the service, and replace any earlier agreements on the subject.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will stay in effect.
If we don't enforce a provision of these Terms on one occasion, that doesn't waive our right to enforce it later.
You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
